Since my last group of blogs I upgraded my audio recording hardware and software systems. I purchased a Zoom H2n handheld recorder, which is able to record WAV at 24 bit/96 kHz (www.zoom.co.jp). I also purchased WaveLab software for mastering and editing the recorded interviews (www.steinberg.net/en/home.html).
Every time I conduct an interview I record it using two recorders, a primary recorder and a backup recorder. I then take the recorded interview to my friend Joy at Save Secretarial Service for transcribing. I compare each transcription to its recording. This is where I start mastering the recorded interview, in order to get the best sound. I also correct the transcription and edit the recording, if necessary.
When all of this is complete I start writing the chapter!
